Bribie Island Sunday Run.
April 22 2001.

Despite the threatening weather 27 cars took to the roads for a picturesque drive to Bribie Island via the Glass House Mountains hinterland. 24 Minis, 1 Moke, 1 Subaru (Mini being fixed) and one Commodore SS, at least it has an S on it (the Pres has the engine out of his Cooper S).

We meet at the Caltex at Carseldine ( this time we did not cause a traffic jam and parked at the other end) where we were given a briefing by our organizer for the day, Des Shortis. Armed with our instructions, we headed off to Woodford for our first stop, a stop at a nice bakery for morning tea. Certainly created a bit of interest with so many Mini lined up in the little country town.

Morning tea over and it was off again via some top Mini type roads around the back of the Glass House Mountains. I bet the bloke in the Falcon wished he had not got in between the four Cooper S’s, hey Dave? I also bet the Pres wished he was in his S, but I guess that his wife Gayle was glad she was driving the SS over the mountain road and not him!

The weather was being kind as we seemed to just be arriving as the rain had just passed and the wipers were not needed for the whole trip. The route took us through the quaint little village of Beerwah where we were a hit with the locals running the garage sale. On the wat to the highway we crossed paths with a group of FJ Holdens out on their monthly run. (Don’t forget the combined FJ & Mini run on May 13, yes, “Mothers Day”.)

Once back on the Highway it was time to blow the cobwebs out of a few bricks as we headed for Bribie. One certain English “Lady” by the name of Pat, just had to show that she was a hoon at heart and passed everything in sight and “Crash” showed us that his new engine is not exactly standard. Just as well the camera cars were else where!!

The gloomy weather must have kept the visitors away from the picnic spots at the Island as we had the whole waterside area to ourselves. With the BBQ lit, the food cooked, we enjoyed the usual high standard lunch and a relax under the trees before having the “must have” group photo on the beach. After much talking Minis and meeting up with new members, (welcome Graham Duff and his wife and Owen Scott who joined us for their first outing with the club) we headed off in all directions to tackle the holiday traffic back home.
