Welcome to this special edition of The Mini Mag, produced as part of our celebrations of OZ40 .. Forty Years of Mini Down Under.

The time has come where we all have to put in a big effort to make sure this showcase event is one of the best in Australia. I hope all of you have put your name down to volunteer for at least one hour on the Sunday so that as many of us as possible get to enjoy the day.

Remember to get your order in early for the OZ40 merchandise as the prices will rise on the day. Also we need to know numbers for the OZ40 Social at the Carindale Hotel on the Saturday night and we need as many of the show-n-shine entries in so that the organizers can pre process them before the day. If you intend to run in the Super Sprints or the Motorkhana make sure that your car is in top condition as the scrutineers will be very tough. While on the subject of the Super Sprints, I would like to thank John Stratton for his generous offer to me to use his race car on the day. I certainly look forward to it. Thanks John!!

The OZ40 Saturday Run will be the start to the weekend. The run will be via Maleny in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland to Mooloolaba. Morning tea has been arranged at Maleny Mountain Winery while lunch is at Friday’s Restaurant at The Wharf overlooking the beautiful Maroochy River. For those who wish to visit Underwater World, the club has arranged special discounted tickets. The run will begin at the Caltex Service Centre, Gympie Road, Carseldine (UBD Map 109 H14), meeting at 8.30am and departing at 9.00am sharp.

There will be a special OZ40 meeting at Wests Rugby League Club at Purtel Park on Tuesday 5th June to take last minute orders and entries and finalize the rosters. We would like as many members as possible to attend.

We now have a new club house for our monthly meetings. The new venue is the Tarragindi Bowls Club at Andrew Ave, Tarragindi. It is a far better facility than the scout hall with better parking and security lighting and generally better all round. The first meeting there will be the Tuesday June 12 MGM.

Another major factor for the change was that two of our members cars were badly damaged at the last meeting. One car, which is two years old, had $5,000 damage done to the paint work and needs a complete re-spray, while another also near new car had $3,500 damage from another vehicle running into it. If you saw anything on the night please get in touch with me as the police want any information they can get. The police tell me that the area around the complex is fast becoming a problem for car stealing and vandalism. I hope you all like the new venue.

By now a lot of the club displays at shopping centres and the SuperCheap outlets will have been and gone. Thanks to Bruce Mudway and Donn Vidler for their organization and all the helpers who gave up a Saturday to man the displays to hand out OZ40 flyers and club information. I am told that the interest in the Mini was overwhelming with many new members joining as a result.

I heard a little rumor that a certain English “Lady” who likes to show us that she has a 1275 under the bonnet of her gold LS was given an unwanted present on Mother’s day by a very nice man in blue. I must admit that I was surprised to hear that it was her first ever speeding ticket and she got it in the street where she lives. Don’t worry Pat, they say things come in threes. I know they did for me and they got dearer each time.

See you at the next event.
John.
